What are Caliu grills made of?

Where should I place the barbecue?

When using a Caliu Barbecue, it's crucial to place it on a resistant surface to ensure safe and optimal operation. Our barbecues are designed for versatile use, both indoors and outdoors. However, we advise against indoor use unless you have proper ventilation, like a professional kitchen, to manage the smoke generated by charcoal grills. To maintain safety and prevent damage, always keep the barbecue away from surfaces vulnerable to extreme heat and oil splatters. Exercise caution when operating the barbecue near materials like natural wood or flammable varnish.Please note that while we provide guidelines for safe usage and offer protective accessories, the ultimate responsibility for the safe operation and placement of the barbecue rests with the user.For added protection and convenience, we offer protective mats designed to be placed between the barbecue and the surface. The mat helps to mitigate heat transfer and minimize any mess created during grilling sessions.

What type of charcoal fuel is recommended for Caliu BBQs?

Accepted Answer

You can use any type of charcoal but we recommend you the coconut shell charcoal in briquette format. 
 
The optimal amount of charcoal for each use is one single layer of charcoal blocks (850g of charcoal approximately). 
Do not place charcoal blocks on a pile forming more than one layer. It should be a uniform single layer (3-4 cm height).

Does Caliu barbecues generate smoke?

Accepted Answer

Yes, fumes are generated in all combustion but mainly the contact of fats and liquids with carbon. 
Coconut shell charcoal does smoke when it is first burnt, but not much after that.
 
Caliu are not smokeless barbecues.

There is no single national law governing the use of domestic charcoal barbecues in Spain. Instead, the legal framework combines national, regional, and local regulations.Forest fire regulations: Spanish Forest Law (Law 43/2003) prohibits barbecues in forest areas and on rural land within 400 metres of woodland, unless they are located in a fully enclosed structure with a roof and a spark arrester chimney. Regional governments may introduce stricter seasonal restrictions, particularly during periods of high wildfire risk, and may ban all barbecues in forest areas.
Detached houses with private gardens: Using a charcoal barbecue is generally permitted provided the property is not located in a restricted forest area and no temporary fire-risk ban is in force. However, local municipal regulations must be followed. These may include minimum distances from fences or vegetation and restrictions during periods of strong wind. General nuisance rules regarding smoke and noise also apply.
Apartments, terraces, and balconies: Portable charcoal barbecues may be permitted, provided they comply with the Horizontal Property Law and the rules of the homeowners' association. Community regulations may prohibit activities that create excessive smoke, pose a fire hazard, or disturb neighbours.
